Germany has officially ordered the closure of nonessential digital signage at night to save gas. According to a report in The Register, the country has traditionally relied on Russian gas, which is in short supply due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The current plan is to shut down digital signage in store windows and other non-essential locations between 10pm and 6am. However, these regulations have gone wrong. For example, an ordinance replaces 6:00 with 16:00, which means the display can only operate from 4pm to 10pm

Germany has also added exceptions for digital signage at bus and train stations, which provide both advertising and information.
